Default Alarm?

New to boating. I get a constant beeping alarm when I start my boat. I’ve checked oil level several times and the level is good. Alarm seems to stop after about 5min. Is this normal? Any other ideas or things i should check? Thanks in advance.

Have you checked the gear lube reservoir? When was the impeller last changed?

What year and engine do you have?

2000. Merc 7.4L I think. I don’t know about the impeller. Where is that located?

There should be an opaque gear lube reservoir in the engine compartment. It is my understanding that there is a magnet-driven alarm function that will automatically engage if the level drops below the minimum level.

Go to Documents of this site and find the Mercruiser manual for your engine and it will have the location of the raw water pump as well as the alarm sensors.
