Maxum 2000sr -92 project

Hello and greetings from Estonia (eastern europe). I share with you my boat restoration project what i bought in july 2023.Its Maxum 2000sr -92 powerd by Mercruiser 305 with Edelbrock 4brrl carb. When i bought it i knew it needs lot of work, body, engine, interior etc.. Rotten floor and stringers, engine block cracked but works and drives fine. Last season july-oct done only some maintenance and enjoy boat on water. I started taking apart her in late october. Plan is to do everything new. I have hundreds pictures from work but i dont post them all in here I will post pictures and updates in chronological order.

Welcome aboard!

Wow that’s quite a project especially seperating the upper and lower hulls. I noticed that the distributor and carburetor are not marine units and therefore don’t have the explosion proof features. I.e. vacuum advance on the distributor so the advance curve is wrong for a marine application. The orange on the pulleys make me think the engine is an automobile one and therefore not equipped with brass freeze plugs, marine cam, stainless steel head gaskets. The starter and alternator may not be explosion proof marine either.

Thanks for reply, i knew that carb and distributor is not marine ones, also starter. Engine is marine mercruiser. This engine not going back, i leave it for backup. New engine is rebuild and waiting to jump in when hull is done.

I got very cheap deal, low hours engine but it was with risk. It was some time outside and engine was sized. in two cilinders there was rain water. Taked it apart, soak it and everithing is in very good condition. New gaskets and all pack together. Rod bearings and main bearings like new. New engine is Mercruiser 5.7 vortec Efi

All out, and its time to start building stringers and transom. I am using 36mm plywood for center stringers, two outer stringers are 18mm. Engine side pulkhead and transom is also 36mm. After fiberwork it came out really nice😎

Today i put engine in boat to build engine monunts to stringers. Allign gimbal with engine and make mounts. My biggest fear was that belt drive impeller dont fit because i build stringers with old engine, but all fits fine. I call it a day 🍺

Are you switching drives from the Alpha to a Bravo? If not you don’t need the engine mounted raw water pump since the Alpha has the raw water pump in it.

Keeping Alpha. Is it bad when i use bouth raw water pumps?

Yes the flow rates of the two pumps are not the same.
