Default QuickSilver Powertune on older engine

My flame arrestor was full of carbon and black soot. Looking to try clean the engine (4.3 Mercruiser) abit using a product like Powertune and spray it into the carb. I can't get seafoam here unfortunately which has better reviews.

My question.. Is powertune safe to run on an inboard engine from 1996.. Do you know if it will cause any potential issues? I still have to change the spark plugs and oil so it might be a good time to do it now.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome ..

Thanks :-)

Power tune should be safe to use but wait to change the oil and plugs till after you use it. In the old days folks would pour ATF in the carburetor to decarbon the engine, smoked like hell.

Used it and changed the Oil/Plugs afterwards..
Instructions said spray 80% of the can down the carb and the last 20% to kill the running engine. Leave it to soak for 15-20 mins and oh my god the amount of black carbon that came out after firing it up again was UN-BE-LIEVABLE!!! I had to scrub the transom afterwards!!

A service was done on the engine too so cant comment on performance.. but if anyone needs a stock of carbon, try it ;-)

Hopefully you’ll get a performance improvement from doing so.
