Default Replacement Throttle Controller - 1999 2300 SC

Hi all. I've taken delivery of my first boat - a 1999 Maxum 2300 SC with a 5.0V8 mercruiser and Alpha one drive 2nd Gen. Looking forward to getting her on the water here in the UK but have a couple of things to sort first. The throttle neutral button is intermittent at best and forward movement of the throttle is pretty stiff. Also the trim button doesn't seem to be working.

It looks like the original controller and I'd like to update it. The only controllers I seem to be able to find seem to be for outboards. Is there a logical replacement model available? I'm guessing i'll also need to change the throttle and shift cables as they are gen 1 and i guess unlikely to fit later model throttle controllers.

The trim button can be bypassed so I know the motor is working.

I’m assuming you have the quicksilver 3000 throttle control. You can replace it with either a new quicksilver unit on an aftermarket Teleflex control for I/Os. Since you can trim up using the trailer button but not the trim up button your trim limit switch is bad and needs to be replaced, it’s located on the side of the gimbal ring. Most likely you will find the wires are broken off.

Hi Mike. Thanks for your reply. I'll try to post a picture but I don't think it's the quicksilver throttle. The trailer button doesn't work either. It's been trimmed up for transport by hotwiring the trim motor to the battery.

Default Throttle Controller Picture

I think I've managed to post a picture. I've not used a forum before so hopefully it works!

Hi. I think it might be the Commander 3000 Classic.

Since the trim up and trailer buttons both do t work but jumping the motor does raise the drive the issue is the trim up solenoid which is located on the pump assembly. I would just replace both since they are $25 each.

This is made by Quicksilver. Based on all the things you have said I don’t think there is anything wrong with the control. It looks like a bad trim up solenoid. I suspect you may also have a bad cable. Try disconnecting it from the carburetor to see if it’s still stiff. If so try disconnecting it from the control to see if the control is now smooth. Controls seldom go bad compared to cables.

Thanks again Mike, really appreciate it. I'm at the boat tomorrow so will give it a go and fingers crossed get her in the water for the first time!
