Default Ranks, your input needed

Was thinking of implementing "Ranks". where depending on your post count you would have a specific rank. Many forums do this and I think it could be cool here. For instance we could have:

Newbie < 50 posts
Sailor > 50 posts
Skipper > 250 posts
Captain > 1000 posts

The numbers were just made up along with the name but you get the idea. The "name/rank" would appear under you forum name. Give us some ideas on rank names and what post count would be good for each level. Of course we don't want to make it easy to work your way up but want to compliment the members who contribute

What do you guys/gals think

also any other suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated and considered. I would also like to thank seapuppy once again for his great work with moderating this site.

Jon

Hmm, a 'newbie' could be 'greenhorn', or 'swab' or 'deckhand'.

Sailor, skipper and captain make sense.

Default Ranks

I've sometimes been considered as Pretty Rank, usually after the "Wax-on/Wax-off" exercise....

I'm onboard.

Default Re ranks

I have some time on my hands today, so I went through recent threads and counted everone's number of posts and this may help you discern what the ranks should be. Here's the results and my recommendations based on them.

Reviewing through 2007 back to 2005 there were about 25 members that posted in the reviewed topic areas the minimum was 2 posts and the maximum was 300. We had 11 members with les than 10 posts and 9 members with less than 40 and 3 with less than 105 and just 2 with over 120. As an average of all messages 38.37 came up.

Just looking at the numbers I would think 5 ranks are more than enough. Here's my recommendation:

> 250 = Admiral
> 125 = Captain
> 80 = Commander
> 40 = Lt. Commander
> 20 = Lieutenant
> 10 = Lt. JG
< 10 = Ensign

This is the best distribution given the boards current activity, at least in my opinion...
