Default Major Repairs

The history:
The surveyor identified the port inside stringer as bad when we bought the boat. The plan all along was to get it repaired during the winter and the seller reduced the price by the amount of the repair quote.

Unfortunately, the damage is much worse than originally thought. That stringer is bad almost to the galley. The starboard stringer is not too bad in the engine compartment but is just as bad in the cabin from the bulkhead to a yet-to-be-determined location past the stairs, somewhere under the galley. The bottom foot of the bulkhead is so bad it looks like a piece of paper when you push on it. Not sure how we missed that one. Some of the rear bulkhead also needs to be replaced.

The engines are out, but now the tanks and the stairs need to come out too. They are cutting a new access panel in the galley floor to access the starboard stringer there.

The question:
Is there anything any of you would change if you had to re & re this much of your boat?

Also, looking for a new boat name.

Thanks in advance.

I would look at the cost of a non wood structural material as a replacement if you plan to keep the boat 10+ years. Also investigate why these rotted under the cabin floor. Seems like water is getting trapped there.

Clarification: I got the sides wrong. Swap port and starboard everywhere in my post.
