Default Engine stalls in neutral

Engine runs fine when i drop the throttle into neutral it stalls. Any idea of the problem.
Mercruiser 5.0 engine

Carburetor or fuel injection? Alpha drive? If it’s an Alpha the shift interrupt switch may be killing the engine due to either shift cable adjustment or wear.

I’d start with the shift interrupt switch adjustment or lower cable replacement. After that the IAC on the engine.
