Default 2700SE battery wiring advice

Hi guys

Can anybody explain to me how the batteries in my boat are wired up and used?

There are 2 batteries, both leisure but different sizes. Both can control the electronics independently or in unison via the battery selector in the rear locker.

One better seems to hold much better charge than the other but I believe if they were connected together this would not be the case.

The reason for my question is that I’m installing solar panels and my supplier want to know how the batteries are used. He suggested that one is the priority battery and perhaps has a device that switches from one battery to the other when it reaches a certain voltage. Sadly I have no idea.

I’d like to learn as much as I can about the electrics in this boat so any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Under Documents of this site go to Maxum boats year 2009 and you will find the manual for the 2700 SE. at the end of the manual is the DC wiring diagram including how the batteries are wired.

More than likely on is designated as the Start Battery, and the other is designated as the House Battery.

Usually the battery switch is wired as [1 = Start; 2 = House].

You should start and run on the Start Battery, and once stopped, switch over to the House battery. I sit on the house battery bank even if connected to shore power. If we loose power, you want the largest battery bank possible.

Using BOTH or ALL will leave you with no way to start the engine if the battery banks are accidentally drawn down.

Thanks guys. I read the full manual and studied the wiring diagram and that answered all my questions. I need to figure out some wiring issues now but I’ll post a new thread for that.
