Default New position for the Ensign - transom thickness?

Question for my fellow 4100 SCA owners.

Current staff is attached to rail and passes through strataglass at the meeting point of the zippers. OK, but not ideal - rain gets in, etc.

Would like to mount at the light blue dot in the image.

Question ... Is the transom hollow here, or solid. Seems very thick and a 'knock' leads me to believe it's solid. I'd like it to be solid so I can put a backing plate for support (would be just below the rail inside the sundeck).

I recently replaced the Nav light below the word "in" in the name. The fiberglass was thick, but not a solid piece. I'm not 100% sure what it looks like 1 ft up. We have the flag mounted on the vertical hand rail on the swim platform, port side

I'm hoping it will be about the same.

That's a good idea, I'll have to look into that if my plan doesn't pan out.
