Ok, So removing the engine today for rebuild. Question is am I better removing the the nuts on the front engine mounts or removing the entire bracket w the engine.
So we’re not sure of the history exactly, but I do know it was in the water this past year. Judging by some of what we saw it was neglected. The motors locked tight and chocolate milkshake throughout. Going to tear it down, magged and see where we are at. If good, new internals. If not, prob a crate motor but a 5.7. Febs project so hopefully goes back in March. Meantime, check transom and other stuff while it’s out.
This is a good time to replace the swivel shaft if it’s worn as you have the best access with the engine out. On the potential rebuild if a salt water used engine the cooling passages will have sluffed scale so starting with a used automobile block and heads would be my choice.
Yea I think thats the way were going to go. Even after magnafluxing the block, after all that salt on a 19 yo boat, we have no idea how thin the cyl walls might be. A pinhole and were back to square one. I saw some good deals on marine blocks and heads online.

Well that would be cool too but it’s only got an A1 Gen II. I was under the impression only good to 300hp.
That’s correct but you are building a marine engine not a street engine. The 5.7 can produce 300 HP and more but not for a marine setup where you want the power at a lower rpm and the torque peak in the range of use. No one operates a day boat at 5000 rpm.
Also just because the 383 can make 350 HP doesn’t mean you have to use it nor will you most of the time. Your call. Just providing options.
lol it is. I found the listing from when the first owner sold the boat in 2015. Was in good shape then. Not sure what happened to it but it was neglected. I’m in Bethel CT. Western border of CT. Had a great weekend, was warmer so got the bilge and engine compartment cleaned up. Pressure washed the inside and a few cushions being redone. Engine should arrive in a few weeks.
