Engine Oil Drain Hose

Hey everyone, Happy Spring prep!!!!!

I was changing my oil on my 01 2400scr 5.0, used the drain hose at the bottom of the pan this time around as I had some time, and wanted to drain it fresh from winter without having to warm it up to suck out. All went well, but I noticed that the hose is pretty dry rotted....I would assume from sitting in a bilge for 23 years. Doesn't appear to be leaking, but thought to maybe change out while it is empty so I don't need to worry about developing a leak over the summer. Anyone ever change one of these things? How much of a pita is it?

I’ve never done it but owing a 2400 myself would think it will be a PIA job. Not much room to work and it will be a job by feel. Maybe you could position a mirror that might help.

I would be curious how the drainage hose is connected to the drainage hole on the oil pan, since it's on a swivel ? Or the better question is how you disconnect it?

Looks like this at the link below. Looks like it just threads right in where the drain plug would normally be. I was just out there checking it out, there is no way in hell I am reaching that. It hurt like hell just looking at it, and I was still a good 3 feet from being able to touch it. It's at the back of the pan near the transom. Maybe...and it's a very loose maybe, if I pulled the right manifold off. I am pondering repowering with a 5.7 sometime in the future, so I am going to wait for that and hopefully no issues till then. Of course, now that I looked at it, I'm sure I am screwed lol.

I periodically pay 12-14 yr olds on the dock (with their parents permission) to get into tight spots for me. I pay them for their time. "I can't reach a nut......here's $20 to get in there and help me out for 30 minutes".
