I change that screen and filter every year and it doesn't come out anywhere near to that on the picture, fuel tank maybe or bad gas at the pump. Do you treat your gas before the winter? By the way I took all the paint off the inside of my gen3 cool sys, saved a ton of dough!

I treat the gas with Startron every time I fill the tank. Maybe it was bad gas. I guess I'll plan on replacing those filters every year also.

How did you remove the paint from the Cool Fuel module? That would be a lot cheaper than a new unit ($1000).

Hi Iceman,
try to replace that screen if not every year do it every other, it comes apart and this could clog your lines, I didn't removed it, bought a couple of steel wire attachment for my drill, one very small that made its way into the hole where the fuel line goes out the other section you need to clean is where the pump goes, don't try to clean the whole thing inside you might damage it, just do the peeling sections, I did mine 2 years ago and I have not had any trouble with it. oh don't forget to replace the fuel pressure regulator at the cooling unit and inspect the one at the rail for paint chips. total cost of the repair was $100 bucks including the fuel pressure regulator and gasket 1hour of my time, a lot less than $1000+++,good luck!

More evidence that this is a real and widespread problem:

I'm going to look into the class action suit.

Rodrigo, I'm glad to hear you've solved your problem. I'll try and figure out how to do the same thing on mine.

Tom

Iceman,
good luck with the class action suit, I called Mercruiser when I had my issue and they told me there was nothing they could do, that I was out of luck it was very disappointing specially when this could have caused a lot of damage and aggravation not to mention all the extra fuel that I wasted. good luck!
