Teak Decks on a 4600
Well guy's I've committed to the new decks for my 4600.
The decks of my 4600 were all in fairly good condition apart from a small repair on the bathing platform where the gelcoat was slightly off in colour. It wasn't a big deal and to be honest it is hidden by the jetrib which sits there but I thought as I was going to keep the boat for a few years I would spend a bit and bring it more up to date. The carpets, which I still have, just seemed to date the boat.
Anyway, what started out as a new teak deck on the bathing platform extended into, well might as well do the cockpit and lazerette floor, which led to silly not to do the steps and so on until I'm now doing the flybridge, steps, cockpit and bathing platform. Oh, and the side steps but I'll explain that later.
This week I had the guys templating the boat
I wasn't going to do the steps on the side deck but I have a problem with water dripping off the cover and running down the steps and into the cockpit. I know it drains away but if I leave anything there it gets wet. So, I decided to put a step on the front under the cover and router a channel in this to allow the rain to run away.
You can see on the template a line running across the step, this will be the position of the channel
Final Shot of the lazzerette floor and side steps.
There were a few comments about logo's but i'm going to use the maxum logo and name on the bathing platform and the boat logo, diver and dolphin, inlaid on the centre of the lazerrette and again in the centre of the rear section of flybridge.
Any comments, questions feel free to ask.
Templates look good cannot wait to see the real thing

Well that didn't work out as planned. I was trying to merge this thread with your duplicate thread in the other sub-forum and ended up merging all your posts into a single one.

Looking good! Can't wait to see the finished product. Are you going up the gunwales and up to the anchor locker?

Close enough, I split them up as I could only post 5 photos per post.

I don't think so. I wasn't going to do the top step or the gunwales but as I said I had the water issue from the cover etc etc. so the top side steps will be done as shown on the templating photo.
I did think about doing the foredeck, chain locker etc, any thoughts yourself as to whether I should do this area?

I've seen the foredeck, chain locker etc. done before in some pictures on Yacht World and it looked really nice. Are you using real teak or one of the synthetic versions. Can I ask how much something like this runs?

I'm using a fake teak, I went for Wilks Dek-King, http://www.wilks.co.uk/Dek-King/Dek-KingWeld. It's a UK supplier but I'm sure you have the equivalents, I am going for traditional with a black caulking.
Cost wise, it will roughly be $10k by the time I'm finished. That includes the bathing platform, cockpit, all the steps to the side decks and bridge and finally the complete bridge level so there is a fair bit of work. It took the two guys over 12 hours to template the boat.
That does include the logo's etc, still a lot but I assume it would be cheaper over with you?
The foredeck will be an extra so I'll see what the cost is and then decide.

Hi guys, it's been a few weeks but the decks are made and they'll start to be fitted next week. I'll post pics as I get them.

Main Stairs
I added a lip to the mats here to make it look more like teak, I think it adds something to the decking
The complete stairs
And again
Now onto the cover!

Wow! That really looks awesome. I'd love to do the same on mine. Who did the work? They really did a great job. Congratulations!

I was pleased, it was used as a show/demonstration boat at the Scottish Boat Show last weekend. Everybody who looked at it thought it was very well done and I believe MADecking who did the work got a number of good enquiries.
For any UK based Maxum owners MADecking are based in Hull but travel all over the UK installing decking, I can't recommend them enough. If anybody wants any more information let me know.
