Default U-Line Ice Maker

This is off our '96 3200 SCR. Refrigeration works great on the U-Line Model 95. After reading the threads about the U-Line ice makers, I thought all I had to do was replace a thermostat in the back of the unit and I'd have a kick butt ice maker! Pop off the ice maker's cover and this is what I find:

Should I be looking to replace this assembly? Use it as a freezer? Maybe turn up the temp on the unit and use it as a fridge? Replace the whole thing with a fridge?

I have a friend that had a ice maker in his boat..I said ....had... For what a bag of ice cost to what a new ice maker cost you can buy alot of bags of ice instead. The are expensive to fix and replace. It is whatever your pleasure is. I know the ice machine can come in handy but again that is alot of bags of ice for what you will spent fixing your ice machine. I would get another frig in it's place...IMHO:-)

Good luck

Roger

Before giving up the unit take it to an autheized repair shop. That cost a lot but the repairs are really cheap. as for replacing it with and refriderator I could not fine one that filled to hole. Mine looked about the same way but I got it fixed for less than $100.00 That rusting happen because whoever had the boat befor me did not crack open the door after the weekend and the moisture just went crazy all week

You can replace that entire timer board for under $100. I did that and the ice maker worked great until it started losing freon. The cabinet would not get cold enough and I then bought an entire new unit last year. Since the coils are built into the freezer walls repairs are usually not an option. If your ice maker gets nice and cold you only need to change the timer board. Bags of ice may be cheaper if they are available which is not the case when at a mooring or on a hook. My ice maker is one of my favorite features of my boat. Well worth the money.

Good Luck
Dan

My ice maker in my 9500 scr 3200 isn't working either. I would love to have a functional icemaker but the $$$$ tag is brutal. There are portable units that can make 25lbs a day, run off of tap water, plug into a normal outlet, and two great things about them, they are inexpensive, and you don't need to winterize with A/F, just bring it home. For $150 -$200 for it may be an option. Google "portable ice maker boat rv".

I know this is a relatively old thread, but I'm ditching my inop ice maker. Struggled for 3 years to keep it running. I'm removing it and putting in a custom subwoofer box in it's place. Seems like a good use of space to me.

J-town, does your ice maker have the flange to make it sit level in the opening? Jesse
