Your boat don't shift in the gear. Or you have more serious problem in the outdrive. Open the engine hood and see if anything move when you shift in gear. Do again back and forward. And pay attention...

With the engine off first push it in forward and turn the prop see what happening, then in reverse and try again to turn the prop. Post the results here.
