Okay, found it. It was a leaking o ring from bell housing, black o ring in between housing had started leaking into shift cable housing pushing water back up into cable. New bell gasket and o ring...

So is it something that can be reached from the outdrive or is it something that's in the engine compartment, I have no idea where to look?

Ok, just put a new water pump on and started the engine for the first time on muffs only not in the water yet and noticed water drip on manifold from the shift cable where can the water be coming...
