You probably have an aftermarket stereo in there...

You probably have an aftermarket stereo in there now, and it is likely wired for four speakers. Maybe a sub too. Any other wiring was probably done by previous owners.

on my 1800, I enlarged the existing speaker holes...

on my 1800, I enlarged the existing speaker holes and put in 9 inch Fusion marine speakers. Powered them with a 90x2 amp and they sounded fantastic. They won't get kicked or wet in current mounting...
