I would like to be able to test the original transducer to see if it is actually bad or do I just have a wiring or bonding issue. I think I'm probably just going to be buying a new trans though.

yeah, I've seen a few pictures, I'm guessing if it's damaged there probably won't be a replacement available to work with the replacement gauge I already bought. Probably looking at a whole new unit.
