What type of head?

With my VacuFlush:
Turn off the Battery Switch
Scrub the bowl and flush
Thread in adapter to deck plate
Attach pump out hose
Activate pump out
Pump until it runs clear
Remove hose
Remove and rinse adapter
Battery Switch back to pos 1
Fill head with water and appropriate amount of treatment
Flush twice
Grab a beer

Well ....they will open your waste filler cap and either screw an adapter into the opening which they attach a pump hose or just stick a pump nozzle into the openning and turn on they pump. After your tank is empty you should have access to a water hose and put a couple minutes of water in. Your rinsing. Pump that out , put your cap back on and your done.. pretty simple..

I've never felt the need to rinse and repeat.

My toilet has a hand pump on the side with a dry and wet bowl lever.

That part of the equation is where are you boating? Good water or bad? If the water is bad use your faucet water in a milk cartoon to rinse the toliet. Close the sea cock for that. So don't ever switch the dry lever to wet if this is what your going to do. Now if the water is OK , open up the sea cock , to rinse flip the lever to wet to pump in water then flip back to pump it out.

You have a manual toilet.

To empty the holding tank remove waste cap, thread in 1.5 inch adapter, attach pump out hose, turn on pump out station. There is a clear section on the hose when no more water can be seen turn off the pump out disconnect everything and reinstall waste cap.

To use toilet open seacock in engine compartment, set selector to wet, pump handle until there is water in the bowl. Do your thing. Pump handle until all waste is gone, set selector to dry, and pump again until bowl is empty.

Earl
Great advice for first time pumper. Pumping-out is not as hard and scary as it may seem, take your time and try not to get any on'ya Ha Ha. Pumping is a necessary (mandatory) task if you plan to use marine toilet. Check out some great advice (search "toilet") on this site. Like "Nothing other than pee or poop goes down the drain" place a small lined trash can in the head for ALL paper products. Provide all new guests with a tour and rules prior to getting underway.

Enjoy the cruiser life

I'm not sure there is a need to turn the battery switch off. The Pump out process is exactly the same regardless of whether you have a manual flush, electric flush, or vacu-flush.

I turn my Battery switch off in order to kill the vacuum in the system.

There is no vacuum between the deckplate and the holding tank. In fact, there is no vacuum between the pump and the holding tank. You have a vent on your holding tank, it would be impossible to maintain a vacuum on that side of the system.

The vacuum-pump only maintains a vacuum between the head and the pump. From the pump to the holding tank and holding tank to deckplate the system is 'open'.
