Default Trailer question, best position

I have a 1996 1900SR with what appears to be a Maxum matching trailer, single axle.

My question is where does the bow ring go, above or below the bow cradle? I have only loaded the boat twice and it seems to want to go just below the cradle, but then it bounces a lot. Seems balance-wise it should be above the cradle but that would require really getting the trailer submerged a lot.

What is general practice?

Kev welcome aboard

Are you referring to the bow ring on the front of the boat that you attach the winch too and the bow stop on the trailer?

The bow stop should be higher. Is the winch cable pulled tight and are you using a transom strap? Both are required to keep the boat safely on the trailer

I always use transom straps, my 1800 has two anchor points under the "swim platform" on either side of the drive...

Yes. The bow strap is tight, and I use two tramsom straps. But the boat bounces like it is too far back and that creates slack on the rear straps. Just seems the boat should be further forward but the ring is up against the bottom of the bow stop.

Move the winch forward a couple inches.

You could also use a strap from the bow eye down to the trailer to reduce the bouncing bow.

Yes move the winch post forward. Hae you check the tongue weigh? It should be 10% of the towed weight. Is the trailer level when in tow.
