Top Speed for a 1900sr with 4.3 for Insurance

Hi all
looking at insurance quotes for my maxum and they are all asking what the top speed is

So anybody that has one with that engine can you let me know please?

As mine hasn't seen water yet under my ownership (other than rain) ops:

I have a 1996 SR2 w/ the 4.3L... at WOT, I hit about +/- 48 MPH according to the GPS... I think if the conditions were right, i could probably max out around 50 MPH max.

I guess the only truly correct answer is "it depends". It depends on wind and water condions, boat load and prop selection. The fact that the insurance company asked you that question reveals that that know very little about the vessels that they insure. A more appropriate question to access risk, would be about the horsepower rating of the engine. Then they could relate that to the size and type of boat.

Guys in the UK who have you got your insurance with?

A lot of policy's have a cut off of up to 35 knots = 40mph

Per tglee's message, there are a lot of variables that can affect performance... in the scenario I noted above, it was fairly early in the morning and the water was still quite calm, winds were light, and it was just myself and a buddy in the boat (very light load).... To the best of my knowledge, my prop is stock, just a plain old aluminum prop... not sure the pitch. I had just installed some SmartTabs and was "dialing" them in....

On a side note, I know there has been a lot of discussion about the SmartTabs on this forum but I must say, they have made an amazing difference on my '96 1900 SR2. She planes much quicker, virtually no "chine walking" and she corners like she is on rails now.

well...we told ya so about the smart tabs...
actually...we test drove this model boat at wilmington NC a couple of months ago and it hit 50 mph..........this was lightly loaded and on calm protected water...with 2 crazy guys....a fun boat!!..

Absolutely SeaPuppy... part of my reason for purchasing the SmartTabs was based upon the feedback i'd read ont his forum.... I've been frequenting the site for some time... I really enjoy it... just recently registered and began posting... figured I could finaly add to the conversations

Im in the UK with the same boat and have it insured with www.insuremyboat.com and it cost about £200 with the extra insurance for towing toys and skiers.
