well..length rigged comes from the sailboaters ...or more commenly known as the blowboaters.....rag baggers.....slow boats....

some of the ole sloops and I believe cutty that have extendable bow poles (not being a blow boater..I can't remember what they call it) that extend the sail area and is pushed out to make the rigged length of the boat longer than the unrigged length....so...from what I remember ..when under sail...they push this pole out the bow...then add a sail there......
for a motor powered vessel it's the entire length from bow to stern...transome to bow..including anything hanging off the back of the boat like a swimstep or even a kicker motor and a bow pulpit.......
that's what I remember it to be...not positive I'm correct or not...but it sure sounds right to me...

I think Steve has it right. It is the alternative to LOA, LWL/DWL. The length overall (overall length, LOA) is the distance on deck from stem to stern--the tip of the bow to the end of the stern (the bowsprit and boomkin are not included). The waterline length (length on the waterline, LWL; designed waterline length, DWL) is the straight-line distance between the boat's two extreme points at the water's surface.

I agree with length over all, but from what to what?

I think Seapuppy is right when it comes to sailboats and no doubt the term used elsewhere stems from sailboats. But I have noticed it used alot when describing lenghts of powerboats.

Here is an example , our boat is 24ft.7in. OAL and they say the lenght rigged is 30ft.6in. I don't see anything that will extend another 5ft . to give them that measurement.

So my theory is they must mean length on a trailer.
What do you think?

'Rigged' will generally include the trailer also which bumps the length up a few feet.

Therefore your 25ft boat will suddenly become more like 30ft....
