Default tachometer

my tach will jump in rpm(800-3000) and read wrong rpm and then come back to normal all at a idle at the dock in calm water.the boat is a 2400scr where should I start to look .thanks

Clean the connections on the back of the tach. I had the same problem, they may look clean but give them a rub with some emery cloth any ways.
