Default Replacing Throttle Control

My 2003 Maxum 2700 has a Merc/Quicksilver "Commander 3000" throttle control. Last summer it got stuck in neutral (throttle only). I took it apart and put it back together and it worked fine until this weekend, when it happened again.

At this point I am thinking about replacing the control rather than repairing it again, particularly since I have never figured out exactly what goes wrong. And, it is apparently a common problem with these controls. They no longer make the Commander 3000, although I think I can find a new or used one. But, I am also thinking about getting either the next generation control (Commander 4000) or even an aftermarket Teleflex.

Has anyone replaced their throttle control? If so, what did you replace with? Did you replace cables too, or just the control? Did you have to cut a new hole? Any advice?

Im about to switch out my 3000 with a Teleflex Marine CH1700 Series Premium Engine Control in Maxum 2400 SCR. Ill let you know how it goes. Wish me luck. This is the only one I have found that will use the 3000 cables and connections.

6 year old thread and the OP has not posted since then, doubt he is still around. None the less there are several folks with the Quicksilver 3000 that may be interested.

Default Siezed up Commander 3000

MMWJR - you are correct, there are still many of us out here (1998 Maxum 2300SC) with that Quicksilver Commander 3000 Classic. Mine even has the Square Trailering Button on the lever in addition to the trim buttons. Darn thing seized up on my at Raystown Lake this weekend while vacationing up there. Shame, cause it eliminated boating! I recall it doing something similar a long time ago, but this time, I'm thinking, hey - it's 19 years old, give it a new shifter! The question becomes germaine to this thread - what would be a good "replacement" for the Commander 3000 Classic? Would have been nice for the posters to followup on their projects and the results.

You can either get a new quicksilver unit or go aftermarket such as Teleflex. If you contact them they can identify a replacement for your.

I must have the same in my 2001 2700 screen. It's hard to get in drive sometimes... I hope it's not about to get stuck in neutral

If it moves freely once in drive I doubt its the control. Either way could be a bad cable. One throttle cable, one shift cable to shift bracket and another shift cable from shift bracket to outdrive.

I replaced mine with a Commander 4000 Gen II (Pistol Grip) along with new cables. I did the cable from the shift bracket to the outdrive as well. That one requires removing the outdrive and is a PITA. If the issue is shifting into and out of gear, then I would suspect that one as it is often skipped during cable replacements.
