Replacing mooring cleats - Maxum Boat Owners Club

We have 1998 3000 scr, the mooring cleats are corroded and i would like to repalce them. I see literally no access to the backside of the cleats.

Can they be removed and replaced? If so how?

yep...they can be replaced....but you have to be about 2 ft high and weigh about 20 lbs.......it depends on which ones your needing to replace....

the bow ones need to have access to the chain locker......

mid ships is thru the mid berth.....there is access hatches in the midberth that will give you access..but....it's probably going to take a deep socket and extension..

aft...that's gonna be a hard one...need to gain access thru the engine bay.......again...2ft tall...20 lbs....or have the thickness of a snake...

Thanks SP--so if I am able to get there, what will I find? A metal plate that the bolts go through and nuts that will fall off if I try to loosen the cleat from the exterior?

well..the cleats are bolted from the inside...the bolts should have huge washers under them to spread the load out........

good luck...take pictures of your feet hanging out!!....hahaha.....

yo chanson......if the cleats are very hard to reach....dont forget to put a piece of rope around your tool and tie it on your arm......you dont want the tool to fall to a place were you never can pick it up any more.......

dont ask me why i know this....it happend to me last summer fixing the left back cleat of my boat.......
