Default Prop suggestion

hi I am new to this group and new to this boat. I have 1998 maxum 2800scr with bravo 3. Im looking to switch to a four blade prop and was looking for some suggestions. The drive is currently running 3 blade 24p props and only hits about 3900-4000 runs with a max speed of about 32mph. I have heard 24p might be over propped for this boat but im not sure and do i need to change prop size when i go to a 4 blade. Thank you

I just bought a 4x3 blade from Solas and hope to have it installed by Friday.
I went from a 3x3 to a 4x3.

Very well made prop with a lot more cup than my 3 blade.
Going to a 4 blade usually requires a drop in pitch.

My 3 blades on a 22p could only hit 4200 RPM.
I am hopeful I will be able to get closer to my Max 4600-5000RPM.
Price seems very competitive.
Hope to have a review by Saturday.

24P is overpropped for that set-up. You'll find a lot of old internet posts that claim that this is a 'sweet spot' for cruise speed and fuel economy, but it puts undue load on the engine.

Run through Mercury's Prop Calculator as well:

I have heard that it is over propped also but I dont know much about it. Going to switxh to 22p today and see if that helps but hoping I dont lose any on the top end.

Top speed is irrelevant, because you don't travel at wide open throttle (WOT). Cruise speed is what matters. If speed is the primary focus, you may be in the wrong type of boat.

Going from a 3x3 to a 4x3 changed how my boat runs.
Runs cooler, planes lower rpm, hole shot is completely different.
I cant imagine a better upgrade, at any price.

100% agree. Going from 3 to 4 makes the boat so much more comfortable

I switched from a 24p to a 22p and made a hell of a difference. Next step is to go to a 4 blade prop and ready to see what happens

Hole shot seems much better. Steering at low speed is great.
Nose does not come up as much, and I no longer need trim tabs to get on plane.
i did go down to a 20p from a 22p\ also.

When I called about the 4 blade they recommended that I go from 22p to 20p so nice to hear that someone has actually done that and happy with results. Did you loose any on the top end by doing that

My RPM increased a bit, so for sure did not loose top end.
My speedoo does not work, so seat of the pants.

The boat is faster, take in the fact the motor runs cooler, and is not working as hard.

Plus the 4 blade is much more efficient, the fact that you can come on plane and hold a lower RPM plane tells me all i need to know.
Also being able to come on plane without using trim tabs is pretty impressive.

Going down from a 22 to a 20p for me was the ticket.
The only draw back is the price.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
