our crash adventure seems to be coming to a close - Maxum Boat Owners Club

As some of you might remember...I crashed my boat into some unmarked rocks back in july.....
just got off the phone with the repair yard (island time drives me nuts)..and all hull work and painting is done..new bilge pump has been added in the fwd engine bay.....
painting in the engine bay is completed...both engines installed...
both drive mounts have been installed and they have aligned both engines...all they have to do is add the drives and props..then drop it in the water....we're heading up friday morning to check it out and do a seatrail and systems check out...along with any repairs that might be needed or adjustments...if all goes well...we'll sign it off and get underway that afternoon..if not..we'll wait till the morning and come home then........I hope..

Just seems like it was yesterday........when that day of doom happen SP..............I know you and the admiral are glad it is about to come to its end.

Gald everything is close to being finished Steve, and hope all systems are a go and you can bring Wild Whim back to her home port.

I truly hope that the trip home aboard will re-light the boating flame for you and your dear wife.

I have to say that I have had more than one anxiety attack over this this week.....but I also wanted to thank in a big way...Jeff Wishart who has agreed to come with me and help man the boat as we bring her back....marsha will drive the pathfinder back home while we bring the boat home....should just about meet at the same time....I hope...anyway...huge huge thank you to jeff for volunteering....he's an extremely brave man to want to ride with "Krash Kraddock of the Pacnorwest!".......hahaha

Steve,
Look at the bright side of this sea trail and put it into perspective. The USS San Francisco ran into an underwater mountain at a flank bell. The folks at PSNS cut her nose off and welded the nose of the ex-Honalulu in place and the crew had to take her out for sea trials that included submerging a nuclear powered boat that had RUN INTO AN UNDERWATER MOUNTAIN! While Wild Whim had significant damage, she was skillfully fixed under your watchful eye and is stronger than when she left the factory. She only has to float and not withstand the crushing pressures of the ocean depths. Anxiety is piloting the San Franlulu on her maiden voyage out of the yard and taking her down. Chin Up, good luck and enjoy your time out on the water a little.

jp...she was repaired right across the sound from me...and being an ex sub designer...I know what the task was to repair the Sanfranlulu...( that had me giggling at my desk)....anyway...I'm sure the hull was extensively xrayed and any bad parts were cut out and rewelded back....I'm sure they had some eqpt that broke loose from thier mounts...I saw the pic's of the SF when she came into drydock.....that was really some crash...

yep..I'd hate to be the skipper of that boat on it's alpha trails..(been there..done that on a drum many yrs ago after an 18mo overhaul.)....

I thank you for your comments and perspective....and yes...she's got over an inch of FG on the keel now ..so when I go skipping along the rocks.

..she'll be better than before....

Steve, like the old boating saying goes: "If you ain't been aground, you ain't been around". I'm glad things are going forward and seem to be going well. Best of luck on the seatrial an trip back. Honestly, the boat is probably the safest and sturdiest it's ever been.

Take all that you learned from the experience and move forward Steve (and Marsha). As long as you do that everything will turn out fine. Glad you arn't bugging out of boating just yet.

thanks guys....we'll be taking it easy..ensure all is ready for sea before we head home...then change the shorts for new ones....toss the cell phone below someplace....keep the camera going....(I'll post them here)...and finally hope to get underway...
however I think I have a new nickname...."crash kraddock of the pacnorwest"....kinda catchy ain't it???

Pfft, not even started in the UK, and now it is over, might get a lucky weekend in at around 20 celcius, but not holding my breath. As long as its not raining ill be out.

Steve, there is nothing like being on the water to get your head clear. I hope once you get over the initial anxiety, you will remember what you loved about boating and the admiral hopefully will in time appreciate it as well. Best of luck. You are a good, responsible boater and I would have no problem crewing for you or handing over II Lucky for the day. Enjoy the rest of the summer and Happy Boating.

i know what you mean.....since the third week of july only 1 weekend with nice temps, and now 15 to 16 celcius....yes perhaps friday and saturday 20/22 celcius....but you never know....as it go's like the last 2 months i will give her a early wintersleep......

but still thumbs up for some nice and sunny days
