Default New to maxum....and boat ownership

Hi everybody, i just finished signing up but have been checking the forum out for several months and I love it so far.

Late last summer we purchased a 2000, 2100sr with a carbed 5.7 turning an alpha and got it out 4 times before winterizing😭. The previous owner had everything that was ever done to er and even the original bill of sale so I was quite happy with that....not to get to long winded but on the last trip out I had the port side manifold crack right in the middle of the manifold (just slightly) so...being a bit anal and even more anxious I have decided to do some work,

-made sure no water intrusion and compression is still good

-new manifolds, risers, elbows, tstat, and totally rebuild the gimbal housing including bearing, all belows and shift cable, tore the leg apart and replaced u—joints, water pump, every seal and o-ring in the whole thing and scuffed the shine out of the paint and repainted and new decals.

(Note: genuine Mercruiser for everything $$&#129326

If anyone has any other suggestions I would be happy to hear as I have been around and loved boating my whole life but this is my first boat purchase....I should note the boat has 100hrs on it by the time I was done on the last splash of the season, which for 18 yrs old doesn’t necessarily make me more comfortable.

I have a ways to go but loving every minute....with the exception of being at the checkout counter of the marine parts store.

Thanks everyone!!!

Welcome.
Just so you know "the happiest day for a boat owner is the day he bought it and the day he sold it" But in between is a lot of frustration and a lot more fun.
Enjoy it while you can. Boating has been a part of my life for about 40 years and it has its ups and downs.
But it gets in your blood and I can't be without one as long as I can still get it on and off the trailer.
Enjoy.
Don

Welcome aboard

You have performed all the maintenance that I would suggest.

Now it’s time to enjoy her.

Moved thread from 'Dockwalk' to "Maxum General".

Have you checked bellows?

Hi Shrew, thanks for the response!!

I am replacing all the bellows you bet. A question though, when I asked my local Mercruiser dealer about purchasing bellows adhesive they told me not to bother and to install them dry...I don’t particularly like that advise as it sounds like a little less insurance on keeping my boat on top of the water instead of under it. Or is this common practice?

Your thoughts are as always appreciated!!

I should note that my first post made it sound like all the work was already done. My bad..I have all the parts but still have a few jobs left to do but it’s been to cold and I can’t yet unwrap the boat to do all the exhaust system and engine work I plan to do so I haven’t got beyond the outdrive yet.

Good morning
I have always used adhesive on any bellows that I replaced.
I have not heard of Mercruiser changing there specs to not using adhesive.
I think it is still a good idea to use it as I agree that it is less likely that any water is able to get past the seal.
Good luck.

+1, use the adhesive. I have heard of folks not doing so only to get seepage.
