Hey All

Just bought a 3200 SCR. My question is should I pay the approximately $1500-2000 to have my boat trucked across lower Michigan or can I ( should I) rent a trailer and do it myself? About 150 miles.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard Murdog!!

I don't know of anyplace in my general area that would rent a boat trailer, particularly one of that size. Usually bunks or rollers need some fine tuning to 'fit the boat properly. It's not a one sized fits all based on length, though I'm sure many can 'make do'.

I assume you have a truck with the towing capacity for a boat that large? It would require a permit because its an oversized load.

Murdog first of all welcome aboard and congrats on your new boat!

OK .... for 150 miles that amount seems very high and especially since you are doing this in one state. I have a 3000 scr that I bought in Benton Harbor Michigan that I towed to central Illinois area. I borrowed a trailer and the friend that had the truck did this for a living , so he took care of all the wide load requirements for each of the three states that we traveled in. A piece of cake! So my advice is this weigh the cost .if you can get a trailer and a truck do it yourself. Call your state's DMV to get your wide load requirements. Or call a couple more hauling company for a better bid!

Good luck

Roger

Congrats on your new boat!
I live in southeast MI and I've seen prices advertised for lower. You can check lake st clair network and I'm sure you'll find some there. It's not really feasible to pull it yourself for two reasons:
1) finding and renting a trailer that would safely fit is going to be very difficult. The transport guys own trailers that they refit each time they move a boat.
2) You're gonna need a huge truck
3) In Michigan you need a permit to tow anything wider than 8'6". It's not tough to get the permit but it is one more headache.

Good luck with the new boat! Will we see you out on Lake St Clair?
