Hello All,

My wife and I just purchased a new 2008 1900SR3. The deal is subject to a sea trial this coming Friday. We live in Ventura County, Ca. and purchased the boat in Newport Beach. We are looking forward to the trial, bringing it home and somehow getting into the garage! Hopefully, we won't need to buy a new house to fit the boat. We will be running the boat in the ocean and local lakes. Besides the proper clean after each trip (espcially in the salt water) any advice / comments / hints would be appreciated. Thanks,

others will chime in for the 1900..which is alot smaller than my boat...but the best thing I can tell you is to take a boaters safety course.....also ..never approach the dock faster than you want to crash into it...........

Well, the test ride / shakedown went well on Friday and we brought her home (1900 SR3). Were out all day Saturday off the Ventura coast and all day Sunday in Lake Piru. The boat performed really well, is pretty quick and we are are quite pleased. When we first put the boat in the water we couldn't find the battery switch they had installed by the battery (port stern). Called the salesman's cell phone at 8:00am. He thoght we were nuts. As it turned out, he was unaware that the "switch" is actually a red "key" time thing and it had fallen out on the drive home and had wedged itself elsewhere in the boat. My son found it and we were on our way. Only real problem was the upgraded sound system wouldn't work but the dealer is sending someone to the house this week (dealer is in Newport Beach / house in Moorpark - about 100 miles) to take care of it....an indication of good customer service by the dealer. In addition, the cockpit carpet runners "flopped" a bit at speed so they need to add a couple additional snaps to along the starboard side to keep it down flat. FYI - the dealer is Hipp Marine, with Newport Beach and San Diego locations - should someone be interested in finding a dealer in So Cal. So far, I highly recommend them. They sell all Brunswick brands and models and are NOT too concerned about Maxum's announcement. Why should they be......a bought one after the announcement LOL.

Congrats on your boat Brian! I'm also in salt water and I keep my 1800SR-3 in my garage (it really helps to have the swing arm!), which is nice because it's a 2006 that looks like the day they made it!

I've learned so much as a boat owner (this is my second) but have been around boats most of my life. A couple things off the top of my head without writing a book (which I often do)...

A Must: Buy 'Salt Away' and use it every time you return from the water. Also, even if you use Salt Away you MUST change your impeller every year! Period. I don't care what the guy says at the dock or the sales clerk at West Marine...have the dealer (or do it yourself if you are inclined) change the impeller every year.

I went from boating in an 18 mile long lake and a nearby 100 mile long river to boating in the Gulf of Mexico. Completely different ball game for us runabout owners. I've learned the hard way that it always pays to have a backup 'anything'. I now carry a spare prop/hub assembly and floating spindle nut wrench (and of course a complete marine tool kit which includes spare fuses, electrical tape, marine silicon, wire stripper etc). I have 2 engine batteries, extra batteries for my GPS and marine telephone etc. Things I took for granted on a lake/river I don't on the Gulf .

Thanks very much for the congrats and the sound advice regarding the after salt water maintenance and carrying extras. Wish I could get the 1900 in the garage but even with the swing tongue I can't unless I make a new "door" into the laundry room. Actually, the placement of the house water heater required platform is the problem. As the saying goes....i need just a few more inches! But, for the time being, looks good in the driveway.
