Default Maxum 1900 sr

I'm looking at the possibility of buying a Maxum 1900 sr 4.3 EFi mercruiser engine, 2000 model, registered in the UK.
I will be using it in Spain and require a mooring so I can get the most out of it when we go over. I don't want to launch and recover a boat everytime we want to use it, anyway there aren't many hire cars with a towbar!!!!!!!!!!
The Maxum we are lookin at has a mooring for rent with it that I can take over, I have seen it in the flesh but not test driven it yet. It is in very good condition, engine serviced 6 months ago and was antifouled earlier this year. The owner says it's done about 280 hours which sounds like a lot?

Millsy
welcome to the zoo..the 1900 is a good boat for the size ..280 hrs isn't alot by any stretch of the imagination...about 1500 hrs would be the end of an engine's life...gas engines don't last as long as a diesel due to the workload ..running at hi rpms under extreme load...kinda like putting your car into low gear and climbing a steep grade all the time!!...so..good luck with the new boat...don't forget to get it surveyed....both hull and mechanical...I'd also make sure the impeller was changed out when you get it....best of luck....let us know how it all goes

Well I had a test drive in the Maxum, a very powerful boat and for its age in good condition.
The owner had only just had a new water pump fitted as the bearings were on their way out but apart from that had no major problems, the engine sounded fine to my untrained ear though I have some experience of car engine noises you don't want to hear :!:
A couple of minor faults I would appreciate some feedback on:
The speedometer was very temperamental and eventually did get going but not sure if it was accurate though I don't really consider it an important gauge.
The aluminium prop had some damage to the edges, especialy on one of the three blades, a small section missing and a small bend on the end. I might use this as a reason for negotiating the price :!: what does a new one cost :?:
We will view the boat out of the water in early February and make a final decision.
We are nearly hooked
Simon

$100 to $200 US for an aluminum prop.

If you are mooring it in salt water don't forget to get the bottom copper painted if it isn't already.

Like seapuppy said, I'd have a pro survey it. If you are serious about it, it is well worth the expense.

Hi Simon...

well ..glad the seatrials went well...the speedo is probably blocked at the leading edge of the outdrive..about a third way up from the bottom...there is a hole there that you need to stick a 1/4" drill bit into and hand twist..if there is anything there it will limit the amount of water that goes to the speedo....
either take the prop off and get it too a prop shop or have the owner get a new one ..use that one as a spare after you get it reconditioned....
let us know how it goes..also check the impeller to make sure it's no more than 3 yrs old....

The prop is not a big deal. I purchased a new aluminum 12 3/4X21 prop for $83 after I did this to my original.

Then I had it reconditioned to use as a spare. It looks brand new now.
