Default Marine Automatic Extinguishing System

I want to have the inboard auto system on my 3700 CSY recharged and tested also there are 8 hand held extinguishers in strategic places within the vessel. I want to have them refilled and tested as well. All the equipment manufacturer is Kidde FyreWatch. I went to their web site but no info on testing and recharging. Any help for who to contact for this service is most appreciated?

Thanks,

MM

contact your local fire dept...they will know who can recharge and inspect a canister....as for the 8 hand helds...if they are dry chem. extinguishers...they can be replaced from west marine....

I'm not in Fla. so I can't give you an address...but the fire depts can....

Thanks for the info. I am contacting the fire dept for recharge canister info, and purchasing 8 new fire extinguishers from WM (under $$$ protest)...

Thanks again,
MM

Don't feel to bad about the price in new fire extinguishers from WM. You probably can have the existing ones inspected and recharged but it cost more than replacing them.

If the handhelds are less than 10 yrs old and still have a charge, then you should be in full CG compliance. The date should be stamped on the bottom of the canister. Anything older than 10yrs, anything not showing fully charged, or any showing obvious damage should be replaced. Check with your local Fire Dept. for proper disposal. Most local FD's will take them and properly discharge and dispose of them for you.

I believe the engine compartment type need to be certified on a more regular basis. I was told mine should be certified yearly. That should have a tag on it.

I'm not in the US ... but extingushers are pretty cheap to have 'serviced' ... i.e. refilled & restamped.
It's easy to get that done in UK.

Hi Argonaut,

Thanks for responding. As this may be an issue for other owner/members as soon as I can locate the most cost effective approach to bringing my system into compliance, I will post the "how to"...
