hello all, i have 1995 1900 SR2 that has a small leak coming in the engine compartment right below the engine mount. any ideas how to id the source?
also, how do i attach an image?
Water can travel quite a ways, so the leak could be anywhere in the engine bay. If you can't see the path to follow it back, dry the area and puff baby powder around the suspected path. The water trail will be visible in the dust.
i can see where its coming in, it's a slight leak below the stringer where the engine mounts are located (Starboard). I'm afraid its the transom seal but just wanted to be as sure as possible.
Not sure what you're saying. Unless you have a major structural problem, the water shown in the pic is apparent at the forward mount, but it most likely didn't originate there. You state transom seal, which is a possible source, but to find the source will take a bit more investigation.
I also would not suspect the engine mount or stringer. It is very likely coming from elsewhere and simply settling there, with the trickle trail evaporating leaving the pooling.
The transom assembly and various places that involve bellows and shifters can be suspect.
i installed all new bellows earlier this year. if the hull is not damaged (outside) would you change the transom seal? what else can it be?
Did you check the swivel shaft for play? Even without play the seal could be leaking. Check for signs of water at the top of the inner transom assembly where the steering arm is.
