Wow, good luck to you Pascavone! We live out in E. Patchogue across the street from the bay, which is plenty close for me! Thankfully we were able to get our Maxum 3000 hauled out on Saturday. Hope your Sisicaya fairs well through this crazy storm. She's a beauty.

Now imagine your boat with the water over the main dock up to your waste, with 3+ ft breaking waves rolling into the marina. That was what I arrived to last year during hurricane Irene. After seeing that, everything short of boats piling up on one another look placid. With lines tied properly, you'd be amazed what a boat will handle. Not saying that I want to do it again, but boats can typically handle far more than we usually can.

Just heard from a co-worker that used to live in Massapequa - where Pas is, and she confirmed that a lot of it flooded. It's an island and not much above sea level.
Hope the only thing Pas is dealing with is an extended power outage.....

so, im back on the air... kinda.....
5pm monday night Sandy on land 60 miles south, wind bands blowing and high tide at 10:05pm with full moon.
the boat tie up correctly is safest in the water.
So will a 44 ft searay, which happen to be only tied to cleats on one side.
but searay like to get out of the water if you let them...

unless you need a bow rider to hold up your deck....
but, if your thinkin house boats, then.....
they really try to be row houses when they get a boost down the street.
but the old man of the sea got even, with my car, house and soaked my original maxum owners manuals in my den...

Pascavone, how did you make out? Lot's of my daughter's friends live in Massapequa, Lindenhurst, Amityville area. Water came within inches of coming in the house. Crazy surge. Although we got our boat out of the water just in time, the boat in front of us floated off its dry dock blocks and when the water receded it ended up on its side. Still not too bad compared to Staten Island and Jersey Shore. My husband is glad he asked the marina to put extra blocks under our boat because he wants to remove and reseal the outdrives this winter and wanted the boat a bit higher to work on them.

Wow, I'm glad your boat made it. That is crazy how high above hte pilings she is sitting. I was wondering about that searay on the lift. From previous pictures, there didn't look like a lot of room. Even when they're tied down, once they start floating off the lift, they risk banging on it and it makes it more of a liability than a safety net.

the sea ray on the lift was raised to 8' and yes it will rock on the hoist, so they tie the host down with ropes, and then the boat is tie off to prevent the boat from floating away in high water.
can't image driving a boat in a storm.....

I hit a microburst about 5 years ago that had 50+ mph winds and 8 ft breaking seas. I was caught out in it, and it was no fun. It's nice to know that both you and the boat can typically take more than you would think, but that is a realization that only comes after the boat is tied to dock.

what i relized when i venture out into the inlet to the ocean with 6' swalls, is the pitching deck, water spray in the face, and your loss of your bearings.
plus is hard to see in a rain storm, and behind esinglass, impossible...
