Hull Repair

Hey guys, just looking for some advice here. I know a little about body work on cars, but never did anything on a boat. I have a deep, long scratch down to the pink fiberglass on the hull of my boat from rubbing (very hard rubbing lol) against a jagged piece of metal on a dock. To repair this, from what I gather, all I have to do is use a rotary tool and grind the gelcoat and fiberglass clean and apply new (color matched) gelcoat, correct? Do I need to be applying any fiberglass "strands" or anything in there? I've enclosed a couple pics of questionable quality for reference. Thanks for any input!

Darn that’s a long scratch.

No need to add fiberglass just tapper with a small grinder as you said and apply gel coat. The company that supplied the original is Spectrum.
