Default How to repair small exposed wood under sterndrive?

This is under the motor of a Maxum 1700sr (sterndrive) There is exposed wood where a small piece fell off last year. I think something used to be mounted to it, I don't know but now it is exposed wood that feels like it is rotted or starting to. Right next to bilge pump.

Is there any method to fix? Should I paint over it?

(The white area on left side of red circle is really sunlight. It kind of looks like peeled paint but it is not.)

Thanks!

The pad is not part of the hull so no damage will come from it rotting. Looks like the pad may have originally supported the bilge pump and float switch which were two separate things. Your call on what to do but I wouldn’t be worried.

Thanks! A little relieved hearing that. Much appreciated.

You can see they used an sealant/adhesive like 3M 4200 or 5200 to adhere that square. That is a hack job. The square is a piece of pressure treated plywood that they use under the corner of jack stands when they haule boats.

It looks like the PO picked on up in the yard and just stuck it to the bilge pump platform.

You can remove it with a sturdy putty knife, time and patience. If I were to replace it, I would put a coat of epoxy on it first.
