Default Help mounting O/B transom saver bracket

I need some ideas on how to make this work. More specifically, the best way to mount the bracket on the trailer cross member.

The instructions state "Mount bracket to the bottom of of the trailer rear cross member using existing hole or drill a new one."

If I do this the slotted hole will not be high enough to slide the shaft into. I'm also not happy about having to drill a 1/4" hole in the cross member.

bracket: (the long hole is where the shaft is inserted)

Sorry SP , it goes between the lower unit on an outboard and the trailer. It is supposed to transfer the weight of the motor to the trailer and off of the transom while travailing down the road.

Here is a typical installation:

As you can see there is no problem if you have the roller on the back of the trailer to use as a brace point. I don't have that option.

ahhhhh.....that makes sense....I'd go ahead and drill into the trailer and paint it before adding the hardware....may have to drop the boat in the water to get too the cross member....

sorry for sounding like an idiot...but I'm not a trailer boater....most people around here don't use them
