Default Help! Engine id number according to hull number

Hello everyone.

This is my first post here.

I recently bought a MAXUM boat equipped with a Force 70 outboard motor.
During a routine check by the coast guard, we could not find the serial number anywhere to cross reference it with its registration paper. After investigating further I was informed that the factory used a plastic sticker usually on the stbd. transom clamp.
The sticker usually drops off after it gets wet.

Now the coast guard is expecting me to visit them with some kind of proof of the serial number or else I may be facing confiscation!

I tried contacting Maxum through their contact form but my message cannot get through (Apparently their mailbox is full as I get the following message: The owner this form has exceeded their quota for form submittals for August.)
Does anyone have any idea on how to get the engine number the boat came with according to its Hull number?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome aboard alfa10530!!!

What country are you in?

I've never heard of the USCG caring about engine serial numbers before. It has never been an issue on USCG safety inspections I have undergone in the past. Why would the CG care about a registration, which is typically a state concept.

This sounds more like an individual state issue, like how some states require a separate registration for the OB.

In Greece the coast guard is also the port and boat authority.

Welcome aboard

The Maxum line was shut down in 2009 by Brunswick who is the parent company.

The HIN is stamped into the hull at the starboard transom on the outside of the boat.

Thank you but I already have the HIN.
I am trying to get the engine number the boat came with according to its HIN and Maxum contact form doesn't seem to be working...

The Force outboard was made by Chrysler for US Marine and was eventually bought by Mercury who stopped the Force line immediately. From what I read you are correct it was a sticker and no stamping so not sure what to tell you. Not sure what year your boat is but I'm sure the outboard has a fair amount of use on it so it may not last too long from now, did you consider getting a new outboard?

BTY these were never considered great motors and parts are getting hard to come by.

Dear mmwjr,

Engine seems to be in fairly good condition. Runs smoothly and compression is good. The boat was constructed in 1992 and it doesn't seem to have a lot of hours on it. I will consider getting a new engine at some point, but for now I have to sort out the legal issue that I am facing!

Did a little reading and in mid 1992 Mercury bought Force so you may want to contact them.
