Default Fouled Prop!

We were having a great Day on "Drippin Wet" and we were getting hungry so we put into "Stoney's" a local Seafood restaurant next to Brooms Island on the Patuxent River. We were about 50' from the Dock and I was making my approach with the wind blowing about 10-15, I want to be right on the money. Then all of a sudden the eng just stalled... tried to restart and the starter only clicked. I was like S#$%t, pulled the hatch really quick switched to the other Battery, no joy...Now I was worried with the wind and current pushing me away from the Dock and no time to toss the anchor cause we were headed (sideways) to another Boat that was dock at some adjacent piers. All hands were fending off the pilings fighting the current and wind. It took a good 10-15 min to get Her into a slip, During all this I noticed a white rope (Line) trailing in the water behind the Boat, I then realized what had happened. A Ski Tow Rope had Fouled my prop. I raised the outdrive Got my trusty Razor knife and cut it off, restarted the eng and all was once again well... We had a Drink and a Great meal and shoved off to home port. I was concerned about the outdrive with the Sudden Stoppage, but it ran fine. Oh and the Prop was undamaged! So all in all only damage was a few more gray hairs and frazzled nerves.

Couldn't have happened at a better time! My crew did a Great job of Fending off the impending disaster.

That is not ski rope. That looks like a cheap clothes line. Looks kinda like a length of line they use to connect a float to a mooring pennant so they pick the pennant up easily at the mooring. Any chance you chugged through a mooring field just prior the event?

Shrew, No mooring fields around these parts. That rope is about 3/4" nylon. What ever it is/was. LOL It sure did a number on my prop...

Being adrift with no time to deploy the anchor - man, I bet that did make for some tense moments aboard. Good that the crew were able to step up and keep you off the docks and off the other boats! I'm sure there were a bunch of eyes on you from the dock and boats.

With the heavy rain we had on Friday a lot of crap has been washed out into the rivers and bay. Glad it turned out well.

Inspected prop and put eye balls all over the outdrive. No oil leaks. Or anything unusual.

When you sy at idle I am assuming you mean in gear otherwise drive would not be the cause. Eyeballing prop is a start but only way to insure is to have it checked. Also may want to check propshaft with a straightedge looking to see if it bent.

Not sure why the outdrive would vibrate at idle since the only thing turning is the pinion gear at the top end. Clutch pack may have taken a hit when it locked up.
