Default Am I a idiot

Got a 1993 1900 SR with the 4.3 four barrel that is running well and seems solid. Wifes brother that goes 250 pounds does not make the deck flex and not one crack in the gel coat I can find. The ouch is paid 7k for it and all I see on youtube is the things are just fancy bayliners. It has been stored indoors and been off to a shop for maintance every year though. 2 strokes with the throtle and then lock to start setting it fires first tap with the key. Ignore youtube and keep it vs get a newer boat to avoid $ issues?

Most problems that occur are with the engine and outdrive, these are supplied by Mercruiser and are the same used not only in Bayliners but Sea Ray and 90% of boat out there. If you tried selling the boat now chances are you won’t recover what you paid for it so why not use it until it becomes a money pit.

Well that is the plan. Just for wake boarding and fishing on the cascade lakes here plus its paid for. Being 70 next month would hope the thing will last the rest of my life vs paying 85-105k for a new boat. I am shocked that for its age its in such nice shape.
It came with skis and several wake boards and around a dozen ski vests and from what I can tell all the hardware is stainless steel vs the cheep chrome junk.

Brunswick corporation is or was at one time the largest boat manufacturer in the world. Their brands include:

Searay
Bayliner
Boston Whaler
Lund
Crestline
Lowe

Brands they previously owned

Hatteras
CAbo
Meridian
Maxum
Robalo
Starcraft
Trophy
Arriva

Brunswick purchased Maxum to a brand between the price point of Searay and above the market reputation of Bayliner.

Bayliner is not a bad boat. It's an inexpensive entry level boat that tend to be poorly maintained by first time boaters. The pervasive sentiment of Bayliner runabouts was "I don't need to cover it, it's a boat, it's made to get wet".

The small runabout market saw a large number of rotten floors, stringers and transoms that were the result of poor owner storage and maintenance, not a result of poor manufacturing.

To call a Maxum another Byliner, would be like calling a Searay another Bayliner.

So then a nice well kept up maxum that runs well and is solid deck and transom may well be worth 7k then. Even has the original top too.

I just bought a 2004 1800 MX, so i totally understand how you feel. However for a first venture into boating, these seem to be a good choice. I paid £8,000 for it but they seem to hold their price very well.

Taking into consideration its age, seems in good condition. A few scratches and gouges on the Gel underneath, but nothing that I can't fix myself. No doubt I will add somer more in order to grow my experience!

The boat sounds solid. I would not look at any boats for a bit and just enjoy your boat.
