Default Alpha drive end float?

Changed prop today on my Alpha One drive, this is a new drive unit (2006 model with only 30 Hrs use)
I noticed that having fitted new prop with correct 75nm torque, I could feel a considerable amount of play .... not left to right or side to side, but front to back play.
i.e. if I hold prop and pull it .. it will move forward maybe as much as 5mm or so ( 3/16 )or maybe more.

This may be normal, just never owned a Mercruiser before so don't know.

Anybody want to educate me ?

Default end play

it's called end play and yes there should be some..but if you get a dial indicator..set it up and measure the end play..then ask your local mechanic to look it up in the specs what is allowable...I would say that about 1/4" might be on the verge of excessive..but not knowing the end play specs...I hesitate to say that's it.......

find out what the spec's say and that will give a difinitive answer....

5mm is over the top... could you try measuring it with a ruler? Push the prop forward and see how far it'll move back. This should be free 'slappy' movement... if it stiffens and moves further still get your dealer to take a look, could be worn out.. doubtful though. I'd suggest you're experiencing normal play.
