Default add wieght to bow

I was in 3-4' chop yesterday and had my guest sit in the front of the cabin to see what the lbs would do .It seem to allow me faster and better control (2500 rpm) .would adding lbs up front be a good idea ?? .I think I could move my fresh water tank from stern to bow ??? boat 2002 2400scr bravo3 thanks

Adding weight to the front got the bow down, allowing it to cut through the chop instead of just going over it and letting the flatter part of the hull take the beating.

Instead of adding weight - which will decrease economy and performance, I think the better solution is adding trim tabs to the stern. The tabs will allow you to lower the bow while also getting the boat on plane faster, with almost no decrease in economy or performance.

See Racer2c's recent thread on trim tabs.

you may need to go larger on the tabs...

but slowing down will do alot for the ride too..

3' to 4' chop? Yuck!

Sounds like bigger tabs may do the trick as fully deployed tabs would have you bow facing dangerously low or at least make the handling dangerous unstable. Have you had it out of the water to make sure your tabs are working correctly?

I agree with racer, bow down too far in heavy chop can be very dangerous, especially at speed. Sounds like you could use a little bigger tab, just be careful and don't go too crazy with it.

what adding weight is doing is altering the planing attitude of the boat.

Sure you can do this with dead weight .... but then that will impact acceleration & fuel consumption.
It could also make it difficult to get nose up in rough sea conditions if you are riding high waves.

Much better - fit SMART Tabs

I did a post last year on fitting them to my Maxum - big difference.

went to the lake to checked my trim tabs. the reserve tank is stained with a false full line, low on oil and a leak as well so that is why the bow was not coming down( boat leveler brand no position indicator).looks like a winter job thanks to all
