Default A/C in extreme heat

Hey Guys:

Well summer is starting here on Lake Mead. I keep my boat at a slip and was wondering if it is wise to leave the A/C running at an elevated temp (say 95 degrees or so) while we are not using the boat? In June, we will have 3 weeks in a row where we can not be at the boat at all. Curious if it is best to leave the A/C off or keep it on (at a higher temp)? We do not pay for electric in our slip, so it would just be wear on the A/C unit, conversely, we keep the fridge going, so it would probably need to work harded without the A/C.

Thanks in Advance!

HEY DV!!!....long time no see..

as for the question on the AC...well...that depends on alot of things..like is someone there to shut shore pwr off in the case of a leak??....personally I'd say no....for long periods of time..I'd shut the system down....as for the fridge...if your not going to use it for months...I'd shut that down and leave the door open to prevent mold....then I'd vent the boat out with a few of the portlights open....or the hatch to releave the heat pressure.....but that would be my idea..

Thanks SP! I forgot that the AC uses water, I assume that is the potential leak to which you refer...? I surely hope that we never go months without using the boat, we generally make it out a couple times per week, even if it is just sitting at the slip. The summer heat here is nearly unbearable, and I imagine the temps inside the boat will hit amazing temps considering our slip is not covered. I will snag a high/low thermometer from work and see just how hot it gets... We tried the AC once, and while it cooled the bat cave down nicely, it seemed like it was still too warm in the forward berth.

Thanks again for the info. :hello:

DV
yeah...I was thinking of the AC springing a leak while your away....that could get ugly if you know what I mean...there are some fans that can be attached to a thermostat..you can rig that to come on when the heat gets too high and it will cycle on to pull air out thru the hatch ....don't know where to get them but I've seen them on blow boats....they are solar pwr'd and work with no electricity off of ships pwr....just an idea...
