Default 94 Steering Cable Replacement

Ok, so I'm new to the forum. I just bought a 94 Maxum 1700, and after taking it out the first time and reading a whole lot, I realized that I need to replace the steering cable. As per all the reading that I've done I started taking out the cable but got stuck. Am I missing something?

I detached all the cable clips from under the starboard side, unscrewed the large nut (about 1 1/8") from the cable side, took out the cotter pin from the center center pin where the outboard swivels, turned the helm to draw out the steering cable towards the starboard side, and that's where I'm stuck!

The cable has only been drawn out about 3 inches, and I can't get the pin out from the arm at the end of the cable.............. I tried to knock out the pin but I am concerned about mushrooming the end of it and just making it harder to get out...........

Any suggestions? Am I missing something?

*I took some pics and was trying to upload them so you could get a visual of what I was talking about, but for some reason I can't upload, maybe cause I'm new?

Thanks for any help.

Its an I/O. Sorry I didn't state that.

I think that I figured out why I couldn't add the pics I took, the files are too big.
