Hard to read the HIN in the picture but from what I can see that's M is part is the serial number and does not indicate model.mercruiser 7.4 wiring diagram

Almost all the Maxum models start with "M", so that doesn't really tell you much.

1993 models:

MS = 2400 SCR
MM = 2700 SCR
MJ = 3200 SCR

I don't have access to records prior to 1993. I have no idea what an MS model designation was in 1992. They did change them from year to year.

The graphics/bading can be changed. The imprinted HIN cannot.

It is an MS stamped hall. Thats what i was getting at. I was under the impression that the hull number designations didn't change between 92 and 93. I thought maybe the boat was labeled incorrectly to save on dock fees or something but it's registered 2300SCR as well. I don't know how they pulled that off. i assume that when it's titled by the manufacturer that would not be changeable in the states paperwork. it is titled and registered as a 2300 which makes no sense as the hull number is a 2400 hull. is there a real way i can tell what it really is??

Not sure but I think 1993 is when the 2400 came out so the MS designation may have been used on the 2300 prior to that. Both small cruisers.

I'm not clear where you got that graphic with the blowout. However "M" does not designate a 2400 Model. Almost all the models use the "M" designation.

Here is the breakdown for 1993 ( I don't have a record for 1992)

Serial...............Number ID

1700XR...............MF
1700SR...............NB
1800XR...............MA
1850SR...............ME
1900XR...............MV
1950SR...............MU
1950SR2.............MY
1950SRB.............MZ
1951SSL.............MT
1952SC..............MW
2200SC..............MH
2200SR..............MD
2250SR2.............MP

2400SCR.............MS
2700SCR.............MM
3200SCR.............MJ
