The fuel injected 5.0s are rated at 260HP so they should have enough power. There is a formula for max speed based on length, beam, .... The key is that a wider beam results in lower top speed.

I have a 2000 2800SCR with the single 7.4 MPI. Mine too was under powered when loaded up and four people was the max. I installed a K&N air filter then tuned the engine and now can get eight people up on the plane.

I would do a compression check, tune up and see if K&N makes an air filter for your engine before looking outside. I did the same thing, looking at bigger tabs, prop, etc, when all along all it needed was a tune up.

As for hiring a lawyer, well, I am skeptical. I am a litigator who handles business disputes and I just argued a case on a failed transaction before the US court of appeals yesterday. If you didn't spend the money on a lawyer to draft a contract for the transaction, then I think spending the money afterwards is foolish. How are you going to prove your case? You did not hire someone to check the computer and I don't see you recounting that you told the seller if these engines dont have 75 hours I'm not buying. Plus what are your damages? It sounds like you had an appraiser who beat this guy down on price already and that would be your most likely remedy.

Getting the contract rescinded requires that you immediately demand it from Seller. You didnt do that and have used the boat. So, either you make good on your threat and get a lawyer right away or keep the boat.

Lot of good points, thanks to all. I will keep the boat and make the best of it. I did put it up for sale on Craigs list. I don't look for any buyers but it is a nice boat.

Did you call Hill Marine? I have a buddy with a 28' with a single 7.4L and it was a pig..He hated going out on it because it took full throttle to get on plane and almost WOT to keep it there.

He put a set of Hill's 4 blade props on and it was a new boat. Planes fast and he can cruise with a lot less throttle.

It's worth a couple minutes of your time to get their opinion. They are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Did that boat have the bravo 3 prop? Mine was an absolute pig but after the tune up, i can get up and go, although it does take wot to get it out of the water, but as long as i am not REALLY loaded, i can generally um along at 4,000.

Yes he has the B III outdrive and had to run 4000rpm to stay on plane. He can now run a much lower rpm at cruise. Saves wear on the engine and fuel.
