Default 3-Blade 19P to a 4-Blade 17P

2002 Maxum 1900SR, Mercruizer 5.0l V8...took the boat for a run last weekend, and I recorded 52mph @ 4800 RPM WOT. Isn't this RPM too low? I'm thinking about switching to a 4-Blade 17P for better hole shot and higher RPM?

Any comments would be appreciated.

what does your owners manual say??..Usually for a carbed engine...your at the top end of the WOT...however if your running an mpi engine..wot could be a bit higher..as high as 5250 rpm's.....so..check your owners manual..

Roy,

I realize we have different engines but FWIW my manual says 4400-4800.

With light load, I got about 54mph (gps) at 4700 and I have the factory installed 3 blade 23p.

Hope this helps.

Looks like you guys are right once again...Looked at the service manual for my engine and the RPM is noted as 4400 - 4800 RPM. So I guess just changing to a 4-Blade will give me a better hole-shot, leaving everything else the same?

Thumbs up

plus a smoother prop..the 4 blade is much more balanced than the 3 blade...however your going to have to up the pitch to probably 19 or 21" pitch on it to get the same as the 3 blade....you may have to experiment on which ones to run...

Glad we could help
