Hello there, I have he same boat, but I think your a little shy on the weight, but anyhow I pull it from central Alberta to central BC and back through the Rogers pass a few times a year. My truck is a 00 Silverado 1/2 ton 5.3, with airraid intake, shorty headers and programmer. My wife and I, two kids and gear, it does ok on the hills, but it is getting tired with 240000kms on it. Pulls in overdrive with the converter locked up as long as there is no head wind. Also use it to tow to the local lake and back too with no prob. 4x4 is a must for getting out of the lake!
P.S. just bought a Duramax.
Cheers
Chris

That 5K is weight of the boat dry. Add 70 gallons of fuel, 13 Gallons of water, gear, extra batteries, etc, and you have a weight close to 7K. I tow with an older Tundra with 7.8K rated capacity.

You might want to check the combined gross vehicle rating for your truck and see if you fall within the limits with the boat and trailer. I found that was the number I had to watch when loading up for towing. The question is not whether the truck can pull it but can the rig be controlled in high winds and emergency stops.

I didn't see any info on what you want to spend.

All the usuals are still good, but there is a new one that I would love to test if I could afford it.

The VW Touareg with a common rail 6 cylinder turbo diesel. 7716 lbs towing capacity, Brembo brakes 398 ft/lbs of torque and when not towing, gets 25 mpg on the highway!

AND 50 STATE LEGAL!

Interesting. I would have never considered looking at a VW for towing.

Yah right, a 2400scr would push that little VW right off the road into the ditch, oh....and my Duramax will get 25mpg when not towing too!

IMO... 2004 to 2008 Ford F-150 w/5.4L, 4wd... towing capacity ~10,000 pounds , 15mpg (average) - Get's the job done easily with my 2000SC in tow (granted it's about 2000 pounds lighter than a 2400SCR).

I've got a 94 2400 SCR. I used to tow with an 07 F150 with the smaller V8 in it. It pulled okay on the straights but when I hit the hills, it would dog down really bad. I ended up trading up for an 08 F250 King Ranch. Now I have no problems pulling the that big boat. The guy I bought the boat from pulled it with a durango. I think as long as you can get the bigger engine with the f150 you'll be okay. Just make sure you have trailor brakes. That's a must when pulling something this big.
