Default 2400 hull damage and water leak from under the port bulkhead head

Hello, guys!

I'm a new (2 days) owner of a 1994 Maxum 2400 SCR. The boat is in great shape overall, but... There is always a but.

1) It seems that the hull has impact damage on the port side. There is a general area of cracked gel coat (3 or 4 about 4 inches long crack lines), and one spot which has a at least half inch deep V type of damage.

2) There was water under the sole in the main cabin. I tilted the boat down on the trailer to remove all of it and found out that water is dripping from under the port side of the bulkhead right where the sole hatch is located (at the edge of the V berth).

Can anybody advice me on what exactly is under the range/sink compartment? The bottom of the compartment is flat which tells that it must be a piece of plywood, but I'm afraid to drill through it as there could a tank, or wires or something like that under it. The water seems to be coming from that area and the "deep V crack" is in that area as well.

Thank you,
L

Welcome aboard!

Having a 1997 2400 SCR I know there is no tanks or wires under the galley cabinet. The cabinet sits on a piece of plywood the outside edge is bonded directly to the hull and the inside edge sits about 6” above the hull.

My apologies for the late response. I'm crazy busy with the boat!

I have another question.

The boat is currently on the trailer on the driveway which is graded, so the engine bay is higher than the rest of the boat. When I power washed the boat some water entered the engine bay and ended up under the sole in the main cabin.

Is this normal? I thought that the engine bay must be completely isolated from the rest of the boat.

Thank you,
L

As far as I know the forward and aft bilges on this model are not connected. The forward bilge on mine stops at the front of the fuel tank.

That is certainly not the case for my boat...

I found out that the is a fiberglass reinforcement of the bottom right behind that piece of plywood the cabinet sits on. So it isn't advisable to cut into that entire wall.

Not clean to me exactly what you are trying to do. Can you post some pictures?
