Default 2001 maxum 2300sc max speed ??

Hey everyone , so i read on internet that my 2300 should get around 45 mph at wot . ( i got the 5.7 thunderbolt v with an alpha one gen 2 prop 19pitch alum ) . When going wot ( around 4400 to 4600 rpm ) i can only get around 36 mph and that is on a calm day . All maintenance done and running smoth i got 420h on the 350 . The boat is new to me this year and the previous owner never ran it at woot .
Any advide would be great thanks .

If you are using the dash speedometer try using a gps speed application to verify

Have you experimented with outdrive trim to find the sweet spot? Try trimming the outdrive out/up.

Do not think you will see 45mph as that is a fairly heave boat for a 5.7.
Speed is not a set spec. with a boat as there are too many things that change how a boat preforms.

Thanks for the response Don , to be honnest i just went with what i read on forum for the same boat as mine ( same set up ) , im still happy with the speed i have and the boat is running fine . i was just a bit curious of why mine had such a difference from everyone else . And my top speed was only myself with the two kids . I might try a ss prop 🤗 . Have a good day

Fabien do you know the dry weight of your boat? I have a 2400 SCR that weighs 5000 lbs dry and has a 5.7 and it can achieve high 30’s with 2 souls on board. Your boat should be able to break 40 IMO. How many souls do you have on board when making these measurements and how much gear weight?

The boat is 4188 lbs , i tried a few time with me and my buddy or me and the 2 kids . No gear exept the required safety equipment and a couple snacks , gas was between 3/4 and full . And i was trimmed the best i could . ( trimmed guage is not working but i go by the rpm and the sound ) . The holding tank was a 1\4 full ( about 10 l in it ) .

I’m on the Chesapeake Bay where wave height is can be 1-2 feet high at a 2.2 sec period.

This may be a little late but I have the same boat with the 5.0L engine and I get about 41 mph WOT at around 4400 rpm. I think that was with a beat up old aluminum 19" 3 blade prop. I now use a 4 blade comp prop and get slightly less speed but it seems to plane a lot better.

Your boat is more than 4188 lbs - that number is the dry weight for the 5.0L engine as I understand it. But, through talking with others, that boat with 1 passenger and fuel, supplies etc it likely around 5500 in the water. I am an equipment-holic and a heavy dude to begin with so I expect mine is even heavier and I still get near 40 mph.

This year I am installing smart tabs and a SS prop. I forgot to mention as well that I run a Dol-Fin ventilation plate on it too which seems to improve hole-shot but definitely improves handling and the ability to trip further up and still not get ventilation.

I expect you just need to tweak your set-up some...unless you've got low compression in one or more cylinders.
